May is lupus awareness month. On behalf of my mother and many others that are living with lupus, I am sending along this information to spread the word regarding the awareness of people who are living with lupus disease.
Lupus is a disease that has no color, gender, or age, class, status, and affects the lives and welfare of millions of people in the U.S. However, this disease has a greater chance of affecting people of color which may be related to genetics or people that share a common set of genes that are linked to the likelihood of developing lupus although there is no definitive research to date to confirm this belief. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect various parts of the body such as the skin, joints, blood, kidneys, heart, and other major areas of the body. In some cases, major complications can occur with organs such as the heart and kidneys. I have watched my mother experience some of these complications, so I know how lupus can greatly affect the quality of an individual’s life.
Tuesday May 10th is World Lupus Day. Take some time to read some additional facts about this disease or just share some information with your family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and others in your communities. Friday, May 13th many people are banding together to encourage people to wear purple (t-shirt, socks, etc.) in recognition of the campaign to promote awareness.
Please visit the link below for more information about lupus and join me and others in promoting health, awareness, and most of all finding a cure for this disease.
World Lupus Day
